Short answer

New paint looks finished the day you pick up the car, but it keeps hardening for weeks afterwards. For the first 30 days, stay away from automatic car washes with brushes and keep acetone off the paint completely. For the first 15, put nothing on it at all — no wax, no polish, no sealant, no detail spray. From day 15, wax is fine. And before the first wash, ask us: the right moment depends on the job.

  • 30 days

    No brush car washes

The tunnel where the car goes in one end and the big spinning brushes scrub it on the way through. Those brushes drag grit from every car before yours across the paint. When we asked our lead painter about automatic washes, the answer was one word with a lot of o's in it.

  • 15 days

    Nothing on the paint

No wax, no polish, no sealant, no ceramic spray, no quick detailer, no bug and tar remover. Fresh clear coat needs to be left alone while it hardens, and anything you wipe on it gets in the way.

  • 30 days

    No acetone, anywhere near it

Nail polish remover is the classic one, but acetone also turns up in some adhesive removers and cleaning products. On new clear coat it softens the surface where it touches. Read the label before anything goes near the car.

FAQs

Can I take my car through an automatic car wash after it is painted?

Not in the first 30 days. The washes with spinning brushes drag grit across the paint, and new clear coat is still soft enough to pick up those marks. Honestly, we would rather you skipped the brush tunnels for good, but the first month is the one that matters most.

When can I wax new car paint?

From day 15. Before that, nothing goes on the paint: no wax, polish, sealant or detail spray. When you do wax it, apply it by hand with a soft applicator, on cool paint, and without pressing hard.

When can I wash my car after a new paint job?

It depends on the job, so ask the shop before the first wash. If we painted it, call or text 561 797 0353 and we will tell you for your car. When you do wash it, do it by hand with plenty of water and a soft mitt, never in a brush tunnel.

What should I do if a bird dropping or love bugs land on fresh paint?

Remove it the same day. Soak the spot with plain water, let it soften, and lift it off with a soft microfiber without scrubbing. Skip bug and tar removers in the first 15 days, and if it has already left a mark, send us a photo before you try anything else.
